I wonder what CoLoR my thumb is?

In the past I have had gardens and they have did rather well.   We just got our garden planted this year, yesterday.  Zack did the plowing.  He plowed with our big tiller like a man.  He sure is growing up on me.  It is hard to believe he will be 13 in December.  (crying tissues please)  Logan and Isaiah did the planting as well as Zack.  We had to go back and fix a few rows, but it was nice watching them work together.

As I sat there watching and talking with Brian. I was anticpating all the harvest.  I love canning our bounty.  Seeing the rows of canned food, makes my heart leap with joy.  The happiness that it brings to my family to have home cooked meals.  To see my family eat heartly on what we grew in our ground.  It makes my mouth water.  I love knowing what we are eating is healthy and all the ingredients is organic.

We planted zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe, egg plant, green peppers, tomatoes, cabbage, and green beans.  I would like to plant some turnips and carrots too.  Not sure just yet though.   I intend on making my salsa and spaghetti sauce so we planted extra tomatoes this year.  The salsa went FAST!!!  I am wanting to find another spaghetti sauce recipe so if any of my readers know of one, please send it my way!!  My family will thank you!  The one I used was okay, but not what I was looking for.

On another note, the other day I made the best pumpkin cake ever!!  It was so moist and oh so delicious!!

Pumpkin cake

1 15 oz can pumpkin
3 cups self rising flour
3 cups sugar
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup applesauce
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
4 eggs
Mix well and put in a 9 x 13 greased pan.  Bake at 350 for about 1 hr until toothpick comes out clean.  Cool and ice,

I made a glaze icing for this cake.

1/2 powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoon melted butter

Mix well and pour over cooled cake.

Things going through this head of mine

The other day I was outside filling up my hummingbird feeder and as I looked up I was staring in the eyes of a beautiful ruby throated hummer.  It was as if he was saying okay lady hurry up, I have no time to wait.  He flew to a nearby branch of my Rose of Sharon and waited some more, but I suppose I was not fast enough for him.  As I finished and walked into the house, I looked out the living room window and he had came to eat.  It reminded me of the rabbit on Alice in Wonderland.

How curious, I am thinking to myself!!!  Hummingbirds are amazing little creatures, but oh so fast that you have to carefully watch or before you know it they are GONE!

On another note, I have discovered that I am missing silverware.  When Zack and Logan were younger they would take my spoons outside to dig with and my lovely lawnmower would greet the spoon with a clankity clank sound and I knew what I had hit!  Nothing left to save!

I realize I still have another little guy among the house, but he won't go anywhere unless I am with him.  Isaiah is truly a Mommy's boy!  I am thinking I must have a Stuart Little in the house.  I can picture a hole in behind my cabinet stuffed full of amazing gadgets and my silverware.  I can see Stuart sleeping in a sardine can and a nightstand made out of a spool of thread.  Not sure how my silverware could be used since it would be so big, but alas I know he must have them!!    I have not found any droppings, so he must even have a tiny outhouse!  This has to be the logical reason behind my missing silverware. I even bet during the night he gets inside one of Isaiahs toy trucks and burns rubber on my kitchen floor!

What being a M-O-T-H-E-R is to me

On Friday I posted my child rearing experience so if you have not read that, do so.  Each of us mother's have different experiences with raising children, but have one thing in common "our children".  Having children is what made us turn from just a woman to a MOTHER.  We become part of the Mother sorority called "A life in Mommyhood"!  Each life is different but they revolve around a 4 letter word "child" or in some families "children".

Today we celebrate that sorority and get some gifts of gratitude.  I told my mother I owed her an IOU.  Brian's payday is on Monday, so I will get her something this week and take it up to her.  My mother inlaw is hard to buy for.  I will leave that to Brian to figure out.  I have did my share of buying and frankly each time I have got something I rarely see it out.  On the norm I get both mother's the same thing.  So no one thinks we love one more than the other.  Flowers are ultimately a good choice.  Most women love flowers, especially ones that bloom all Summer long.

Our church gave out Mother's Day gifts.  A flower basket went to the oldest and youngest mother.  I did not get a basket this year, but I did get a cute garden flag with a  puppy and kitten on it.  Brian and the boys took me to Ponderosa for lunch and the restaurant gave out carnations to each mother.  Mine smelled so nice.  Isaiah made me a cute fence photo frame in Sunday School with the words I love you a whole bunch on it.  It had hearts as flowers.  So cute.  Logan made me a card with a cut ink pen.  All in all I had a great day!

This is a picture of what the photo frame Isaiah made me.  I ordered it from Oriental Trading.  Of course each child made his/hers differently.  This is not the one Isaiah made, but gives you an idea.  It was actually on clearance because it was a Valentine decoration, but I thought it would be cute for Mother's day!

I will leave you with this card  in hopes you to had a wonderful "Mother's Day"!!  Click on the bear to see the card.

Journey of my child rearing thus far

Babies come into the world with crying being their only communication.  At this time it seems that our mother radars begin to work.  When the baby cries it lets us know whether the baby is hungry, dirty, tired, or just wants held.  Then again there are times the radars get confused and we have to call in the reinforcements to figure out what could be wrong with our little darlings.  The reinforcements being our own mothers.

By 4 months or so their first word comes out of those tiny mouths.  All three of mine said "da da". Brian just loved it!  About a month or so later "mum mum" was spoke and has been spoken ever since. Of course now it is mommy.  They scream "Mom or Mommy" whenever they need something.  At times I ignore the word Mom and pretend I am another woman with no children.  That lasts for a split second and my brain comes back to reality and I scream back "Your mommy has changed her name"!  Funny how I was so thrilled to hear the first "mum mum".

Around 8 months they begin to babble up a storm... the babbling is only the beginning of worse things to come!  Sometimes you might hear an actual word or two, but for the most it is just jibberish or baby tongue.  I have witnessed mine carry on a conversation with another baby and they would giggle like they knew what was going on.  All the while I am wishing I knew what they were saying, then again maybe not.

By the time they reach a year old they can speak more words , but not in complete sentences.  This is a good thing!  Beware the walking can begin and some can be walking terrorists!  Zack started walking at 10 months, Logan at 13 months, and Isaiah at 14 months.  Zack was my walking terrorist!  If anything opened he was in it.  I had locks on everything including the fridge.  I even had to put a gate up in the hallway to keep the terrorist in one room.  A play pen was a joke for him.  He could leap a play pen with a single bound!

Then comes the terrible two's and three's.  Again Zack made it more terrible than most.  And they wonder why I have gray hair?  The child was so busy.  I had to keep him occupied or look out.  He figured out how to unlock doors and take off to his grandmothers.  We had to buy locks for the top of each door that Houdini himself could not open.  Well  this kept him from getting out, but it was also hard for us to get out!  Logan and Isaiah were both a breeze, thank the Lord!  If they had not been I would have probably ended up in the looney bin!  Some say after the two's the three's are a breeze.  Yea right is all I have to say!  Yes Zack once again, I know poor kid.  I was at my wits end with him and had him tested for ADD.  What the test showed was that he was borderline genius and the doctor said, "Mrs. Haber your son is just bored."  --rolling eyes--  I started giving him more computer games to play, puzzles to work, and I even got workbooks for him.  I got him a WV puzzle to work with small pieces of each county to put in the right place.  He had it worked in 10 minutes the first time and less time there after.  Zack had a great imagination.  One time, Brian's uncle came  up visit.  Zack called Ricky, Pee Paw.  So Pee Paw and Zack were on the porch and Zack told him to look up in the sky.  "See the moon, Pee Paw?  Ricky said yes.  "My daddy took a chainsaw to it."  The moon was a half moon that night.  Logan was and is a follower.  Whatever Zack and daddy are doing he wants to do it too.  He gets frustrated when you tell him you are not old enough.  He thinks since he is 2 years younger than Zack he can do it too.  Logan is my fly by the seat of your pants kind of kid.  He does not care what anyone thinks, he just does what he wants.  This is good, but can be bad.  He is a little on the dramatic side too.  I call him my "drama king".  If he were a girl he would make one good diva!  Isaiah will be 3 in a few weeks.  He is a cross between both boys' attitudes.  He is quite smart.  He loads up the computer by himself and chooses what games he wants to play.  He mimics everyone!  Somethings he does is just pure Isaiah.  I was reading one of my emails one day and he said "mommy"  I ignored him.  He again said, "mommy".  I again ignored him.  He then screamed "mommy"!  So I looked at him to see his naked butt and him shaking it saying "shake your booty"!!  I about rolled!  I had been mooned by my 2 yr old!!  Believe me when I say I do not run around in the buff, shaking my fat fanny!  I do dance around with my clothes on saying shake your booty Isaiah.  Just having fun.  I pray he never decides to run down the isle at church shaking his booty to the beat of his little band.  I think I would slowly sink down in my seat, pretending I was not there.  Of course he would probably yell "mommy I shake my booty, like you"!  I would then sink to the floor and start crawling out!

Through the years of child rearing, I have experienced different steps in seeing my boys growing up.  Some of the steps have broke my heart, while others I have treasured dearly.  I am so thankful the Lord blessed me with my children.  The same children that doctors did not think I could have.  I still have many more years left at rearing these boys, but with every step of my journey I am sure there will be calls to my reinforcement (my  mom) for advice.  Not to mention prayers to keep me sane (forget the gray hairs)!  I just want to keep my hair without pulling it all out!

My ramblings (they may make sence then again they may not)

On Saturday we had Logan's birthday party.  I don't do themes so much anymore.  I probably will for Isaiah until he turns 7.  After that they just want cake and gifts.  Mark bought Logan's cake this year, because his friend made this triple chocolate deal.  Anyway it was "death by chocolate" for sure.  It was so rich it made my teeth hurt.  It was good, but the chocolate stuck with ya!  Logan got a lot of nice gifts and was one happy camper.  I made grilled bq'ed chicken, deviled eggs, green beans, mashed potatoes, baked mac n cheese, and corn bread.  I guess it was all good, because there was NO leftovers!!  Here are a few pictures.  I won't bore you with all of them.

Me doing my best don't mess with me look

Isaiah is our next birthday victim.  He will turn three the 30th.  He loves Diego so I am thinking about getting him a Diego cake.  Brian found him a Black and Decker fake tool set at a yard sale the other day.  He got it for $10.00 and the thing looks brand new!  It would have costed $90.00 at the store!  He should have saved it for is birthday but went ahead and let him have it.

The toy set

I have been working a lot outside lately.  Brian made me a nice bird feeder holder.  I have several different types of feeders and lots of birds have came to pay a visit.  Isaiah and I love watching them.  We now have some humming birds.  They go to fast for us to realy watch, but I like to see them flutter.

We are working on another walk way and later on we plan on putting in a pond.  I think my cat will love the fish.  (Here fishy fishy)   I like gold fish, but I think we will probably go with some Koi which are related to goldfish, but bigger.  I have another $25 gift card to Home Depot, so I am going to get some more mulch and some wave petunias.  I love flowers, so who knows what I will end up with.  I want to get some to attract some butterflies.

We have also got more fencing up so we can get some more goats.  Brian is wanting to fence in some of the front part of the yard too.  I am not sure I want that.  I would rather have it woods.  We finally got our brush pile burnt off so all we have to do now is plow the ground so we can get a garden in.  I can't wait to can some nice fresh veggies!  I am out of my salsa and it is so YUMMY!!!

I guess that about raps this rambling up. Hope it made some sense!
